For Communities

Congratulations on a great Global Day of Jewish Learning! The Global Day of Jewish Learning is only made possible because of you – the community organizers across the globe who commit to holding Global Day events. On November 13th, over 300 learning events were held in over 250 communities across 40 countries worldwide. On behalf of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, the Aleph Society and the Global Day of Jewish Learning team, we extend our heartfelt thanks for all of the time, effort, and dedication that you invested in making this day a reality. We greatly looking forward to joining together with you in planning Global Day 2012.

Here is some information for those of you who are curious about what it takes to be a Global Day community:

What does it take to plan a Global Day event?

Each community throughout the world will decide what their Global Day event will look like. The structure of your event will depend on audience, resources and local interest.

Some communities in North America are working with their local Jewish book fair to develop a meaning Global Day experience while others might be creating events around the children’s PJ Library curriculum or other adult learning opportunities in their own communities.  Each community event will be unique – some might be an all day experience while others only an hour or two.

For some, the Global Day will be a first-time learning experience; for others who learn regularly, this may be their first opportunity to learn in a large group setting. For still others, communal learning may be a regular practice and it will be the international achdut, or unifying aspect, that provides meaning. The important of the Global Day is bringing together your Jewish community from all walks of life and providing a Jewish learning experience.

Every registered community for the Global Day of Jewish Learning will receive the following resources and opportunities:

  • Shema curricular materials and facilitator’s guide including family classes being developed by The PJ Library;
  • Resources for your community by Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz including three twenty minute classes on the Shema and a number of articles written for the Global Day of Jewish Learning 2011;
  • An opportunity bring Rabbi Steinsaltz to your community for this year’s Global Day on November 13th, 2011 and have your community event telecasted live;
  • Marketing and Public Relations material;
  • Planning and guidance from the Global Day staff.
